My Hewlett Packard Pavilion 8630 is running sluggish, could it be the AMD Athlon 700MHz Processor? And if yes, can it be replaced with a P3 or P4?

What is the general opinion on Athlon?

Get a faster Athlon and at least a half gig of ram, and install win2k. It will scream like a scalded beeyatch!

You can't replace your Athlon cpu with a P3/P4, they need different motherboards, if your willing to buy a new motherboard aswell then you could change. Also if your going to upgrade to a faster Athlon make sure your motherboard can work at that speed or you might have to buy a new motherboard anyway.

If you do opt for the Athlon make sure you have a hefty heat sink and a super cooling fan because they are very prone to over heating.

Personally I would go for the Athlon, a better prossesor in my opinion.

Thanks Cartman.

Looks like this 1½ year old computer needs major attention. Damn...
